Located just in front of the hotel, the Playa Hermosa–Punta Mala National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area essential for the nesting of olive ridley sea turtles.
Mass nesting occurs mainly from June to December, and while the olive ridley is the most common species, up to four different species have been recorded, including the leatherback turtle.
